Our Co-Founder, Kieron Gaffney, brings extensive experience gained from working within specialist sports tax teams. His background includes supporting Premier League footballers, Rugby League and Rugby Union professionals, Olympic athletes, and advising English Premier League and Scottish Premiership clubs, EFL Championship clubs, and Rugby League organisations.

This hands-on experience gives us a deep understanding of the financial, contractual, and regulatory challenges facing both sports professionals and clubs.

For clubs, academies, and sports organisations, we offer comprehensive support across financial operations and governance, including:

  • Full accounting and statutory reporting

  • Payroll and squad-wide remuneration management

  • VAT and corporation tax compliance

  • Agent fee and intermediary reporting support

At Gaffney Business Solutions, we go beyond compliance to deliver clarity, efficiency, and long-term planning. Our priority is to give you confidence off the field so you can stay focused on success on it — now, and for the future.

Your performance drives the game.

We help support everything behind it.

PSR & Financial Fair Play Compliance

Compliance with PSR and UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations requires constant financial monitoring and structured reporting. We assist clubs in assessing their financial position against regulatory thresholds, including permitted losses, revenue eligibility, and cost exclusions permitted under league rules.

Our team reviews financial statements, evaluates transfer spending, and analyses wage structures to ensure clubs remain within regulatory limits. We also assist with preparing documentation required for league submissions and regulatory reviews. Through careful financial oversight and structured compliance processes, we help clubs reduce the risk of sanctions, points deductions, or transfer restrictions.

Transfer Window Compliance Modelling

Transfer windows present both sporting opportunity and regulatory risk. Significant player acquisitions, contract extensions, and loan arrangements can materially impact a club’s regulatory position under PSR and FFP frameworks.

We provide detailed financial modelling that assesses the regulatory impact of potential transfer activity before deals are completed. This includes analysing transfer fees, contract length, amortisation schedules, wage commitments, and agent costs. By modelling multiple transfer scenarios, clubs can make informed recruitment decisions while maintaining compliance with league regulations.

Player Transfer Accounting & Amortisation

Accurate accounting for player registrations is essential within football financial reporting. Transfer fees must be amortised over the life of a player’s contract, while associated costs such as agent fees, signing bonuses, and performance incentives must be recognised appropriately within financial statements.

We assist clubs in establishing robust accounting frameworks for player trading activity. Our services ensure that transfer transactions are recorded correctly, amortisation schedules are properly calculated, and financial disclosures accurately reflect squad investment. This provides clarity for management and ensures regulatory submissions remain consistent with accounting standards.

Wage Structure & Squad Cost Management

Player wages and staff remuneration represent the largest expenditure category for most professional clubs. UEFA’s squad cost ratio rules and domestic league regulations place increasing emphasis on maintaining sustainable wage structures relative to club revenue.

We analyse wage commitments across playing squads, coaching staff, and senior management to assess their impact on financial sustainability. Our advisory services include modelling wage-to-revenue ratios, reviewing bonus structures, and evaluating incentive arrangements linked to performance or qualification outcomes. Through structured financial analysis, clubs gain a clear view of how wage commitments influence regulatory compliance.

Revenue Recognition & Commercial Income Strategy

Revenue plays a critical role in determining a club’s regulatory capacity to invest in players and infrastructure. Broadcasting distributions, sponsorship agreements, hospitality revenue, and commercial partnerships must all be recognised appropriately within financial statements.

We assist clubs in reviewing commercial agreements and ensuring revenue streams are recorded accurately and consistently with accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements. Our analysis also considers the sustainability and defensibility of commercial arrangements, ensuring clubs can demonstrate the legitimacy of their revenue streams during league reviews.

Ownership Funding & Related Party Transactions

Investment from owners and related parties often plays a key role in supporting club growth and infrastructure development. However, financial regulations closely scrutinise transactions involving related parties, particularly sponsorship arrangements and shareholder funding.

We provide advisory services on structuring shareholder funding, equity injections, and commercial partnerships involving related entities. Our approach focuses on ensuring that transactions are appropriately documented, commercially justifiable, and aligned with regulatory expectations. This helps clubs avoid regulatory disputes while maintaining transparency with governing bodies.

UEFA Squad Cost Rule Advisory (70% Rule)

UEFA regulations now require clubs participating in European competitions to limit spending on player wages, transfers, and agent fees to a defined percentage of revenue. These squad cost rules place additional emphasis on financial discipline and long-term planning.

We assist clubs in assessing their compliance with these limits by analysing squad costs relative to total revenue. Our financial modelling services project future squad costs under different recruitment strategies, enabling clubs to plan sustainable squad development while remaining within UEFA thresholds.
